Upper Eagle Falls.

Eagle Falls

This is actually two gorgeous falls that feed into Emerald Bay from Eagle Lake in Desolation Wilderness.  These are probably the most popular falls in Tahoe.

Type: Short hike out and back to the upper falls, with a series of stairs up the canyon; the lower falls are roadside (CA89) and require climbing down the rocks for best view.

Trailhead: From South Lake Tahoe or Tahoe City, take CA89 to Emerald Bay.  Park in the Forest Service Lot (fee) or out on CA89.

Distance: 0.5 mi to the upper falls; lower falls are roadside

Base Elevation: 6398'

Hints: Go either mid-week or early/late in the day.  This is adjacent to Emerald bay and parking is very limited.  Be very careful on the rocks of the lower falls.  There is on room for error, and one person was killed there this year.

Change in Elevation: 91'

Trees: Jeffrey Pine, White Fir.
