This is a series of craggy pinnacles on the north side of US50 above Spooner Summit. Only a short walk and climb, it offers great views of the Carson Valley.
Type: Out-and-Back Loop
Trailhead: Going eastbound on US50, turn left just before the NC-DOT maintenance area onto Kings Canyon Rd (Forest Service Rd). Go approximately 1 mile and park in old logging staging area
Trail: This can be done as a 2.3 mile loop, or a 3/4 mile trail blazing trek up the mountain, across the other side of Kings Canyon Rd
Distance: 2.3 miles as a loop; 3/4 mile trail blazing loop
Change in Elevation: 300'
Max Elevation: 7442'
Hints: The loop option is longer, but it is a relatively easy and pretty walk, and it allows you to walk back to the crags on the ridge line. Either way, some trail blazing is required. Once, you get to the crags, climb up them to get a great view above the trees. There are four main crags. The 2nd closest to the road is the tallest.
Trees: Jeffrey Pine, White and Red Firs
